Access Bank Zambia partners with Defined Style Fitness in commemoration of International Women’s Day

The Bank celebrates women’s achievements by promoting physical fitness and financial inclusion for the women

Lusaka, Zambia – Wednesday, 13 March, 2019 - Access Bank Zambia, has partnered with Defined Style Fitness, a company that promotes fitness through aerobics in commemoration of the 2019 International Women's Day.

The International Women's Day Aerobics Mania event which was held on Friday, 8th March 2019 at Twin Palm Mall brought hundreds of women from different walks of life to celebrate their day as well as exercise for a healthier lifestyle.

In line with this year’s theme: “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change,” Access Bank Zambia is passionate to build a gender balanced world through the promotion of financial literacy and inclusion for women.

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8th March to honour women who have paved the path towards our progress and struggled to take ‘womanhood’ to a level where it is now. The objective of Women’s Day is to express love and gratitude towards women’s contribution to our lives and society.

Access Bank Zambia Managing Director, Mrs. Joana Bannerman said that we recognise women as equal partners in the development process as we appreciate them for their tireless contribution in all spheres of society and the banking industry in Zambia.

She further added, “we are a Bank that is committed to ensure that women are financially included by offering a tailor made women banking product called ‘W’ which is designed to inspire, connect and empower women across Zambia, while catering for their financial and lifestyle needs at various stages in their life.”

Speaking at the same event Defined Style Fitness founder and fitness driver, Mr. Makungo Muyemba said:  “we are excited to partner with Access Bank Zambia in championing fitness in the country as we have embarked on the ‘Zambia shall be fit campaign’ aimed at motivating masses across the country to exercise.”

Mr. Muyemba commented that the Government should devise programmes that will ensure full participation in fitness and wellness activities to benefit the citizens of Zambia. Before aerobics mania, fitness was restricted to gyms and lacked the motivation and drive. This year, aerobics mania is going to different cities in the country and aims to exercise not less than 50,000 people.

Gender balance is key to realising the future development of any country as women have proven that they can be as productive as men. This helps in recognising and usage of full potential of a person irrespective of their gender.

Access Bank started operations in Zambia in September 2008 and delivers full-scope commercial banking products and services. The bank currently has six branches and two agencies. The Bank strives to deliver sustainable economic growth that is profitable, environmentally responsible and socially relevant.
