Pius Kasolo is a well-known and respected business strategist known for his technical expertise in mining exploration. His career in mining spans over 20 years in the UK, Europe, and Africa and with notable accolades which include turning around ZCCM- IH from a loss-making institution to a world class investment company when he served as CEO for over 5 years.
Dr. Kasolo began his career as a student geologist at ZCCM Copper mines in Zambia in 1980 and went on to become a senior economic geologist at Zambia’s Geological Survey Department. In 1991, having completed his post-doctoral research in Geochemistry, he joined BHP Billiton as a consultant geologist, evaluating possible exploration and economic mining projects in Africa. He then spent four years with the London-based mining company, SAMAX Resources.
Director Kasolo worked as part-time senior consultant at the European Union in Brussels before joining JCI in South Africa in 1997 as a group generative exploration manager, in charge of mine acquisition in West Africa. He then joined Anglo American’s new business division for six months to evaluate the base metal and gold mineralisation potential in Gabon in 1998. In 1999, Dr Kasolo joined MAC Consulting South Africa, becoming a hugely valuable addition to the team, acting primarily as a link between the firm and the mining industry.
Dr. Kasolo holds a master’s degree in Basin Analysis and Economic Geology from Nancy Ecole de Mine in France. He also has a PhD in Economic Geology from the University of Southampton in the UK, where he did post-doctoral research. In addition, Dr. Kasolo also obtained an MBA from Thames Valley University in the UK.
He enjoys reading, playing rugby, discussing politics and music. In addition to being a fluent English speaker, he is proficient in French as well as five African languages.
