Ms Cynthia Katongo Chanda

Acting Head, Legal

Ms Cynthia Katongo Chanda is an Advocate of the High Court of Zambia, with over 25 years of professional experience across the banking, public, and non-governmental sectors. She brings extensive expertise in corporate and commercial agreements, litigation management, regulatory compliance, legal risk mitigation, corporate advisory, and governance.

Ms Chanda provides strategic legal leadership, supporting the bank's business objectives while ensuring full regulatory and statutory compliance. She oversees complex commercial transactions, security perfection documentation, and legal risk management, and has streamlined legal processes to improve efficiency and turnaround times.

She has been instrumental in bank merger integrations, employment and pension scheme harmonisation, and policy realignment in response to evolving regulatory and labour law requirements. She has led proactive engagements with key regulators and stakeholders, including the Bank of Zambia and the Ministry of Labour.

Ms Chanda has built her career in the financial sector, having worked with Barclays Bank Zambia, Atlas Mara, and currently Access Bank Zambia. Recognised for her collaborative, service-oriented leadership style, her approach balances risk management with business enablement, contributing to strong governance and sustainable institutional growth.

She holds Bachelor’s Degrees (BA) in Law and Education, and a Master’s Degree (MBA) in Business Administration and is trained in corporate governance, compliance, and risk management. She also holds professional certifications in arbitration, mediation, governance, and strategic planning, and has previously served as a pension fund trustee.
